The bond between parents and child during feeding is profound. Bolder Beginnings recognizes that while feeding is one of the most basic, innate, and essential behaviors, it is not an easy, straightforward task.
Feeding is complicated. It is the only function we do as humans that requires all systems of the body to be in harmony with one another for optimal results. Feeding an infant is even more complicated because it not only requires the baby to have mature and coordinated skills, but the caregiver also needs a skill set and confidence in his/her role.
No matter the age, Bolder Beginnings recognizes that feeding and eating are a whole-body experience and honors both the child and the caregivers' roles. Each family has different challenges and goals. Our team of therapists all have a background in typical development and have specialized in feeding and the relationship between the two. We understand that feeding is so much more than sticking a nipple in a baby's mouth.
Bolder Beginnings has the expertise and is committed to recognizing each family's strengths and areas of need. By doing so, individualized feeding goals will be created to help guide a plan that allows success for both infants and caregivers.
Whether you need help with breastfeeding, bottle feeding, introduction to solid foods, or your child is experiencing chewing or swallowing difficulties, Bolder Beginning's feeding specialists are available to help families. Depending on your individual family goals, feeding therapy may just be a consultation or a series of ongoing, face-to-face, home-based sessions. We help ensure success and peace of mind by improving the feeding experience.
STARTING AT BIRTH
For some newborns and infants, coordinating a strong and efficient suck/swallow/breath pattern can be challenging. Issues like gagging, choking, gulping air, fussiness, potential tongue/lip tie, sore nipples, and long feeding times can make mealtime stressful for the whole family. Our feeding specialists can help identify why breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or transitioning to solids may not work and create a plan to make feeding a more successful and enjoyable experience for everyone.
TRANSITIONING TO SOLIDS
For some babies, weight gain can be a concern. Bolder Beginnings works with you and your pediatrician to improve nutrition and support healthy growth and development. As your baby nears six months, introducing solid foods and using different cups becomes a key focus. Our feeding specialists will guide you through the solid food process while encouraging your baby to become an adventurous eater
