Allison Micek Lammers, M.A. CCC-SLP, CLC
Allison has experienced both professionally and personally the joys and struggles that come with learning the art of feeding babies and toddlers. Professionally, Allison has been working with preemies, newborns, babies, toddlers and their families in the home and hospital settings - both as an outpatient feeding specialist and as a team member providing feeding, swallowing and developmental supportive care services in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She understands that addressing the whole child and the caregiver's role is essential for success. While eating is essential, it is a complex skill that requires the baby and caregiver to develop a symbiotic relationship. Allison believes that the baby and their caregiver must work together and coordinate their different skill sets for a successful feeding. Therefore, addressing the baby's and caregivers needs is a common practice when Allison is assessing and treating feeding concerns and obstacles. Throughout her professional career, Allison has worked closely with other disciplines, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, lactation consultants, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses and pediatricians. Over the years, Allison has taken numerous lactation, infant and child feeding classes. She has completed the course work as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and has been putting those additional skills in practice since 2017.
As a mother, Allison has experienced first hand the emotional stress that comes with having a baby who struggled with becoming a proficient breastfeeder. She is continually reminded by her daughters, how positional, motor and sensory challenges can impact the quality of nutritional and social aspects of eating.
Allison received her undergraduate degree in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, with a minor in Kinesiology at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She continued her studies at the University of Northern Colorado, completing a Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology in 2005.
In addition to her work, Allison enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling with her 2 young daughters and wonderful husband.
